Healing from Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) Course/Intensives
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a very difficult disorder for many. There are several things that can be done to help heal from OCD. This Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) Course is focused on helping to alleviate and/or heal from OCD.
According to the Anxiety & Depression Association of America:
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) affects millions of people from all walks of life. According to the NIMH, OCD affected 1.2% of adults in the U.S. in the past year. It currently affects approximately 1 in 40 adults and 1 in 100 children in the U.S. People with OCD experiences obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are intrusive and unwanted thoughts, images, or urge that cause distress or anxiety. Compulsions are behaviors that the person feels compelled to perform in order to ease their distress or anxiety or suppress the thoughts. Some of these behaviors are visible actions while others are mental behaviors. (ADAA, 2021)
Some examples of common obsessions are:
Fear or disgust and preoccupation with avoiding bodily waste, dirt or germs
Preoccupation with symmetry or order
Preoccupation with praying “perfectly”
Preoccupation with blasphemous thoughts and fear of being punished for them
Excessive worry about bodily features
Excessive fear of having a catastrophic illness
Unwanted and worrisome sexual thoughts
Some examples of common compulsions are:
Hand washing in a ritualistic way
Checking over and over that you did not harm self or others
Checking excessively to make sure no mistake was made
Collecting seemingly useless items
Difficulty throwing away useless items
Reading and rereading excessively
Counting items (such as books, ceiling tiles)
